The two Eids (Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha) are the main festivals of Bangladeshis. Nothing impacts the whole nation with the same extent and magnitude as the two Eids. They also contribute in maintaining social and family bondage, help establish equity between poor and rich, and play a very important role in the cultural and literary development of the country.

Eid-ul-Fitr comes after month long fasting of the holy Ramadan and by far the most observed and anticipated one.

Eid-ul Azha is popularly known as Kurbanir Eid or Bakra Eid in Bangladesh. This Eid is marked by sacrificing animals and distributing the meat among relatives and poor.

On the Eid day everyone tries to dress well and prepare improved foods according to their ability. Relatives and neighbors also share the joys of this festival.

In Eid-ul-Fitr people of economical society prepare different type of Semai (Laccha Semai, Deshi Semai with Milk and Coconut), Feerni, Kheer, Chotpoti etc for breakfast. People of all ages are really fond of this type of deserts!!! For lunch usually we prepare Polao, Beef Rejala, Chicken Roast, or Beef Masala, Chicken/Beef korma, Beef Kabab, different type of salad by carrot, tomato, borhani. Some prepare Halim for afternoon refreshment. For supper generally lunch menus are repeated.

In Eid-ul-Azha most of recipes of Eid-ul-Fitr's are repeated. In addition different types of beef or mutton recipes are prepared like beef/mutton rezala, or korma. In the next morning of Eid-ul-Azha beef rezala and rice dough (Chaler Ruti) are presented as breakfast. An special recipe/menu is prepare by the leg and ankle of cow called "Nihari" tow/three days later. Generally it takes 2/3 days to prepare the "Nihari". It can be served with hot polao/rice/bread or soup itself.

We should keep in mind that both Eid is to share our happiness with those people who do not have the ability to spend even a single penny at eid. So whatever is prepared at home in Eids we share the happiness with those poor/orphans. So please remember those who have not been blessed so much to enjoy the eid.
